Conveyor elements - Idlers

Careful selection of idlers: Key factors in view

We develop components for roller-based conveyor technology to optimize your material flow and operational logistics.

Deciding on the right idler roller requires careful consideration of each assembly such as tube, axle and bearing. Matching the material and design to your application is essential and includes considering aspects such as roller length, tube and axle dimensions, bearing type, center distance and conveying speed. The choice of material for assemblies and drive elements is also of great importance.

Configuration with a focus on durability and performance
During configuration, it must be ensured that the bearing, tube and axle can withstand the planned loads. Specific technical and environmental requirements such as electrical conductivity and adaptation to temperature and humidity must be taken into account to ensure a high-performance and sustainable application.

Further information

Rollex offers several types of surface finishing and coating. Depending on the application, you can choose between the following raw surface finishes:

  • Untreated: The idler tubes are not treated any further. They are labeled with the abbreviation ST (steel pipe), N2 (stainless steel pipe), KB or KGH (plastic pipe).
  • Galvanizing: Galvanizing has a layer thickness of approx. 0.8 µm. It serves as corrosion protection, although it should be noted that this protection can be damaged by mechanical and thermal influences. Galvanized tubes are marked with the abbreviation STI. Driven idlers that are to be completely galvanized (including the drive element) are given the suffix "batch galvanized" in addition to the abbreviation ST.
  • PVC coating: With PVC-coated idlers, a hose is applied to a steel tube using compressed air. Rollex offers the hose in several versions and in various dimensions:

  • Rubber coating: The roller tube is covered with a black NBR rubber coating. This is bonded and ground to size. The hardness is approx. 60° Shore and is available for all standard tube dimensions. Tube 40 with a 5 mm coating can be supplied as a rubber tube (standard) or as a vulcanized rubber coating.
  • PU Baytec coating: Roller tubes can also be coated with a PU material. Here you can choose between PU-Baytec 73° black and different hardness levels (70 - 90° Shore), which are more complex to apply.
  • Epoxy resin coating: Rollex offers steel support roller tubes with an epoxy resin coating. Please specify the RAL color number when ordering.
  • Nitrocarboration: This is a thermochemical process for enriching the surface layer of the steel pipe with nitrogen and carbon. This creates a nitriding layer consisting of a compound layer and a diffusion layer. This is a hardening process for surfaces, i.e. the penetration depth is max. 0.2 mm. The edge zone then has a hardness of max. 540 HV1.

Axle designs

  • Material:
Rollex uses free-cutting steel to DIN EN 10277-3 or EN 10278-h in the normal steel range and material 1.4305 in the stainless steel range.

  • Dimensions:
The design of the conveyor system and the load capacity of the axle determine the axle dimensions.

Brake Rollers

Brake rollers - indispensable in gravity applications

Rollex enables safe and cost-effective braking of goods on gravity roller conveyors by means of direct and indirect acting braking elements.

Our brake rollers are characterized by a spring suspension that constantly presses against the conveyed goods, even on slightly uneven surfaces. Various factors such as roller conveyor design, inclination, transport goods properties and environmental influences affect the choice of brake roller type and spacing. Each pallet location requires at least one brake roller to ensure a controlled speed.

Indirect braking is implemented using two support rollers and is particularly suitable when a narrow center distance is required.
